John Zwach Scholarship Helps Political Science Students
Pegedwende Nadine Kinda attended undergraduate and graduate school at Southwest Minnesota State University, studying marketing and finance for her undergraduate work and business administration for graduate studies. While attending school Pegedwende Nadine Kinda received the John Zwach Scholarship.
The John Zwach Scholarship goes to students who have strong leadership skills and are active in addressing key issues. Funded by family and friends of the late John Zwach, the scholarship honors his lifetime of public service to those in the southwestern Minnesota area.
He was a native of Redwood County and worked as a teacher, civic leader, school superintendent, and farmer. In addition, he served in politics, as a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, Senate, and Senate Majority Leader. In 1963, he was the chief author of a bill that ultimately created Southwest Minnesota State University.
Those interested in applying for the scholarship for the 2018 to 2019 school year are studying political science and must apply by March 1, 2018. To be considered, students must provide the following:
* Their grade point average
* A list of campus clubs, organizations, and activities they have been active in while at the university and how they have provided leadership
* A list of activities where they have given service, including at the university, community, or area
* An essay of three to four typed, double-spaced pages in which they discuss how university residents can help their community or region
